British actress Keira Knightley is rumored to play the lead role in “The Life of Diana, Princess of Wales”, a film inspired by the life of Princess Diana, informs dailymail.co.uk.

Producers of the Pathe company has already started work on this film project and intends to distribute Keira Knightley,25, in the role of Princess Diana and Helen Mirren, 65, as her mother, Frances Shand Kydd.

According to British media, the film will be released in theaters in 2011, the year that Princess Diana would have turned 50 years and also the year that it would have turned 30 years of her marriage to Prince Charles.

“The project is in its infancy, but Pathe deliberately chose 2011,” said one source.

Although Keira Knightley seems to be the big favorite in the race to achieve this role, the name of the actress Scarlett Johansson is also rumored.
