Leonardo DiCaprio escapes death, offers one million dollars

Leonardo DiCaprio, 36, boyfriend of supermodel Israeli Bar Refaeli, marks two huge successes in 2010 with the highly popular Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island” and “Inception” by Christopher Nolan.

The most gifted actor of his generation will also follow up with two ambitious projects, as he will soon start shooting Clint Eastwood’s “Hoover” as well as “Legacy of Secrecy”, which will focus on the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

But cinema is not his only passion, and like Sean Penn or Angelina Jolie, Leo has a heart and takes advantage of his celebrity status to make good deeds.

So even though his flight to St. Petersburg, Russia, where he went to attend the Summit of the Tiger WWF, had an engine problem and had to make an emergency landing in New York, it didn’t prevented him from going with another plane at the summit led by Vladimir Putin and organized by the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), where thirteen countries were represented.

“En route to attend the Tiger Summit in St. Petersburg, Leonardo DiCaprio was one of the passengers aboard Delta Flight 30,” a spokesman for the actor said. “He wishes to commend the actions of the pilot and flight crew in bringing the plane to a safe landing.”

According to a statement from the famous association, the actor will donate one million dollars to WWF for urgent efforts to protect tigers.

A nature lover, conservationist and an active member of WWF, Leonardo DiCaprio had participated earlier this year in a campaign whose goal was to collect 20 million dollars for the preservation of tigers, animals that ultimately could be in danger of extinction.
