Lindsay Lohan: the specter of prison looms stronger than ever

If Lindsay Lohan accepts a deal with prosecutors after being charged with theft, she will head back to the prison, a judge of the Superior Court of Los Angeles told the actress on Wednesday.

Even if Lindsay pleaded not guilty to the charge that weighed against her, she said she was ready to conclude an agreement with authorities to avoid jail. But she won’t accept any agreement that involves staying behind bars.

Judge Keith Schwartz, however, told Lohan that she would return to jail if she made an agreement with prosecutors.

“I don’t care that you’re Lindsay Lohan,” the magistrate said. “One of the things about me is that I treat everybody the same. What I look to in sentencing is, ‘What is the prior record?’ In this particular case, there has been so much speculation in the press [that] I’m just going to tell you a couple of things: if you plead in front of me, if this case is resolved in front of me, you are going to jail. Period.”

Lohan has denied prosecutors’ allegations that she had stolen a $ 2,500 necklace on January 22 from a jewelry store in Venice, California.

Lindsay is back in court on March 10 to either accept a deal with prosecutors, or share her decision to stand trial.

According to TMZ, as she was leaving the court Wednesday, Lindsay said bluntly “I didn’t steal” and made it clear she will not accept a plea bargain that involves jail time.

In addition, TMZ reports the offer Deputy D.A. Danette Meyers made to Lindsay’s lawyer was a six months period in jail.

Lohan has been formally charged with the theft of the necklace in early February. She has denied allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
