Matt Damon is disappointed by Obama

Although he was one of Barack Obama’s biggest supporters in the 2008 campaign, Matt Damon has confessed to being disappointed by the policies of Barack Obama.

“He (Obama) misinterpreted his mandate. He’s doubled down on a lot of things,” said the actor, referring to Obama’s poor performances in economics and education.

“In his State of the Union he didn’t even say the word ‘poverty,’ ” Damon said. “You’ve got millions of people languishing in it.”

Matt Damon was also disappointed that there has been no fundamental reform of Wall Street and said he had a suspicion that the financial crisis is “just going to happen again,” because “they don’t make anything. They don’t build anything.”

Regarding Afghanistan, the actor said, “I don’t think the mission there has been very well articulated. And I think it would help to kind of reframe the way we’re thinking about being there and why we’re there.”

Damon said he is very committed to yet not tempted by politics: “I feel like the work I do now allows me to change things,” he said.

As he admitted he’s “interested in everyone’s opinion” and “interested in people who don’t agree with me,” when talking politics, he’s got other plans. “I love my job. I love making movies.”
