The Oscars are a highlight of the year in films and it’s always interesting to see to whom the Academy bestows its highest awards.

This year, the following five actresses compete for the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role: Annette Bening in “The Kids Are All Right” where she plays a lesbian mother trying to properly raise her two teenage children together with her partner Jules, Nicole Kidman in “Rabbit Hole” as a mother who is faced with the tragedy of losing her only child, in “Winter’s Bone” Jennifer Lawrence is a brave and stubborn 17-year-old teenager, forced to grow up prematurely due to financial troubles and difficulties that have struck her family, Natalie Portman offers a remarkable interpretation in “Black Swan” as a struggling ballerina who is chosen to play the dual role of the black swan and the white swan in the Swan Lake, and Michelle Williams in “Blue Valentine”, who is considered to be Portman’s most serious competitor for a role that has brought her numerous applause.
