Recognized as “the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time,” the Latina received yesterday, November 8, the 2454th star on the famous Walk of Fame Boulevard.

After selling over 60 million records, the pop superstar has become the first Colombian singer to receive such an honor.

Very emotional during the ceremony she told the fans who were present: “This is incredible. I would like to thank all of you.”

Shakira, who was accompanied by her parents at the ceremony, remembered being on the boulevard as a tourist when she was 7-years-old, when her mother told her, “Shaki, one day you’ll have your own star here.”

“If someone had heard that conversation, they would have thought she was insane,” she said.

She then dedicated her star to her fans, who “have listened, supported and understood my music all these years”, and to Hispanics in the US , “a community that restlessly works and dreams and dreams and works everyday to make this a better country.”

In addition, Shakira will be celebrating a special dinner Wednesday, when she will receive the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year award

Shakira, who released her debut album at 13, became an international star in 2001 with her single Whenever, Wherever.

She has since received two Grammys, seven Latin Grammys, 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her song Despedida from the film Love in the Time of Cholera.

She is also the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time and the second most successful female Latin singer after Gloria Estefan.
