Zsa Zsa’s husband signs papers for risky surgery
Zsa Zsa Gabor’s husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, had to decide the fate of the 93-year-old actress who has been hospitalized in Los Angeles since January 2.
The doctors have been treating the actress with powerful antibiotics for several days hoping to spare her of the amputation of a part of her right leg on which a deep lesion has recently become gangrenous.
Her ninth husband revealed to TMZ on Thursday night that Gabor’s life was in his hands, as he decided to sign paperwork allowing doctors to perform a life-threatening operation on his wife.
He said that specialists from the hospital explained to him that putting Zsa Zsa Gabor under anesthesia to perform the amputation was “very risky” and that the actress has less than 50% chance of surviving the operation given her very fragile state of health.
Zsa Zsa has been hospitalized several times in recent months because of complications related to surgery on her hip she suffered last summer after falling from her bed at her home in Bel Air, California.
During a hospital stay last August, the actress asked to see a priest and receive last rites after refusing a new operation recommended by doctors. She was hospitalized again in November to treat a blood clot.
In 2002, Zsa Zsa Gabor was the victim of a serious road accident which left her partially paralyzed. She also suffered a stroke three years later.
