Carla Bruni-Sarkozy thinks her pregnancy is “so uninteresting for French people”

The first lady of France is expected to give birth in the fall.

In an interview with the BBC, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy opened up the persistent silence that surrounded her pregnancy in the last few months.

“There is not much to say,” the 43-year-old said. “There are so many women who are expecting children and giving birth. It’s so uninteresting for French people.”

“It’s great news for me, but it’s also something very banal,” said the wife of President Sarkozy.

Beliefs are also the source of her discretion.

“I’m superstitious, so yes, I’ve been very careful,” she said.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has a 10-year-old son, Aurélien, from her relationship with philosopher Raphael Enthoven. She married Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008, less than a year after he had been elected president of the French Republic .

The birth of her child will make her the first wife of a French president to have a baby while he is in office.

“I guess it will instill a sense of modernity into the French Republic , which is not bad,” she said.

During the same interview, Bruni-Sarkozy revealed that she finds a simple life more attractive than the one she has at the moment.

“My dream life would be to return to my full time job and be with my family. You know, ordinary dreams, dreams that everyone has.”

Carla also talked about how French president Nicolas Sarkozy managed to seduce her.

“When I met him, while walking in the garden of the Elysee, he didn’t cease telling me the names of all the flowers. He knows all the Latin names of the flowers, and a lot of details about the tulips and roses, “she recounted.

“I said, ‘My God, I must marry this man. He is a President and he knows everything about flowers. It’s amazing’.”
