iPhone 5, Google+, Steve Jobs and Rebecca Black make Google’s 2011 search list

Google has released its annual Zeitgeist list that reveals the trends that marked the web over the past 12 months.

Google sorts billions of data to find the 10 most researched terms during the year.

Sitting at the number one spot is the infamous Rebecca Black, famous for the most hated Youtube video and song – Friday.

In second place comes the social network Google Plus that opened in beta about six months ago, followed by late reality star Ryan Dunn, Casey Anthony and Battlefield 3.

Apple is again the most reserched brand, with iPhone 5 (number 6) and iPad 3 (number 10) placed among the fastest-growing search terms of the past year.

Google indicates that searches for the iPhone 5 rose 1658% between 2010 and 2011, the highest point reached on September 25, one week before the presentation of the new iPhone 4S.

Searches for Steve Jobs also exploded between 2010 and 2011, registering 982%. The queries spiked during the first week of October when the Apple CEO passed away.

The term iPad 2 increased by 939%, with the peak recorded during the last week of February, two weeks before the actual availability of the new tablet.
