Kate Middleton’s wedding dress on display at Buckingham

The legendary wedding dress that Kate Middleton, now Duchess of Cambridge, wore on April 29 will be on display for all to see on Saturday at Buckingham Palace.

The dress, created by Sarah Burton, artistic director at the Alexander McQueen fashion house, will be on display starting tomorrow, July 23, in the ballroom at Buckingham Palace, until October 3rd.

The fabric of the dress, which was inspired by Grace Kelly’s wedding gown, reportedly cost a whopping € 45,000.

The veil, the tiara, the diamond earrings and the shoes will also be exposed to the public.

Visitors can also see a replica of the wedding cake offered to the guests after the ceremony, as well as one of the bouquet, which was made of lily, myrtle and hyacinths.

According to the Official Royal Wedding Website, the lace appliqué for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework. Workers had to wash their hands every 30 minutes to avoid the risk of staining the ivory fabric. The fine needles had to be changed every 3 hours to stay sharp enough.

A collection of private photographs, taken at the event, will be featured in the throne room.
