The Duchess of Cambridge gave his first public address today.

Prince William’s wife delivered her first speech as a member of the royal family in front of 600 people on Monday, for the official opening of the East Anglia Children’s Hospice at the Treehouse center in Ipswich, outside London.

Upon her arrival, Kate received flowers from Tilly Jennings, 6, and Bethany Woods, 10, who receive care at the hospice.

“I am only sorry that William can’t be here today. He would love it here,” she said about her husband, adding, “A view of his – that I share – is that through teamwork, so much can be achieved. What you have all achieved is extraordinary.”

In a speech that she wrote herself, Kate addressed families of the children there, saying that when she first visited the place, she had “pre-conceived idea as to what to expect. Far from being a clinical depressing place for sick children, it was a home. Most importantly, it was a family home, a happy place of stability, support and care. It was a place of fun.”

Kate fulfilled her royal duty in a bright blue, long sleeved dress that belonged to her mother.

Carole Middleton wore the same Reiss gown when she attended Ascot in 2010. Kate is said to have bought it for £139 in 2008 and rent it to her mother.
