The oldest seal in captivity, Else, died Monday at age 53 in a pool at the animal park Rhenen in central Netherlands.
“She was the oldest seal in captivity in the world. She was almost blind but she spent her last days enjoyably,” Ouwenhands Animal Park official Natalie Oudenhoven told AFP.
The female seal, which died of old age, was born in a zoo in Amsterdam.
It was moved to Rhenen in 2001, after the death of her companion, Dolf, at the age of 39.
