Elizabeth II ascended the British throne and was crowned on June 2, 1953. Prince Philip became Duke of Edinburgh.

The wedding gown for Queen Elizabeth II was designed by Norman Hartnell. He used an ivory duchesse satin ornamented with flower designs of jasmine, smilax, lilac and white rose-like blossoms added to the train, embellished by white crystals and pearls, as well as thousands of crystals and 10,000 pearls imported from America. The dress had a rounded collar, long sleeves, a tight bodice made from Brussels lace with elaborate floral motifs made from seed pearls and a skirt of tens of meters of taffeta, silk and antique lace. 25 yards of silk taffeta and 100 yards of silk net were used in the construction of the dress. The lace was over a century old and had flower designs in it.

The movie star turned into a princess in every sense of the word.
