William and Kate documentary is a hit on NBC

The NBC special, which aired Tuesday night, discussed the first six months of Prince William’s and the Duchess of Cambridge’s marriage.

“William & Kate: Inside the Royal Marriage” was created by royal documentarian Matt Drury, the executive producer, and Chris Jackson, a Getty photographer who has followed the couple since before their November 2010 engagement.

“We try to set in context the traditional roles of previous royals — whenever they tried to be informal on public tours they always looked uncomfortable, it always looked wrong,” Drury says.

“But with (Will and Kate) it seems to come naturally to them. He’s a modern prince, he’s pretty relaxed, they embrace Twitter and all the modern media. He’s not forcing it, it comes naturally.”

The documentary also revealed how Will and Kate choose the ones that form their closed circle of friends.

“Ben Fogel, a friend of the couple, talks about how they’re kind of choosy about their friends,” Drury says. “They have a small group, and if anyone reveals information about private matters, like Kate’s diet, they will soon be banished from the trusted circle.”

The film documents the royal couple’s April wedding, their life in Anglesey and their efforts to maintain privacy.

In addition, Will and Kate’s first trip to Canada and their stay in Los Angles are also highlighted.
