Microsoft’s next console, the so-called Xbox 720, is generating a lot of talk.
According to MVC, the successor of the Xbox 360 will possess no disc drive system.
Microsoft reportedly held a secret developer meeting in London recently where the company warned its partners of the absence of drivers on the Xbox 720.
According to MVC’s source, Microsoft plans to abandon disc-based media in favor of “some sort of interchangeable solid-state card storage,” but does not specify whether the cards will have a proprietary format or they will be cards that are currently on the market.
In addition, the apps and games on the console will be downloadable or streamed to it.
If the rumors prove to be true, gaming retail shops, such as Gamestop and UK’s GAME, are bound for bleak times due to the drop in sales.
Finally, the same source says that the release date of the Xbox 720 I slated for 2013.
