These are two actors that most of us know from popular sitcoms. Besides the place of birth (Albuquerque), another thing they have in common is the fact that they’re both gay.

Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris (born June 15, 1973) is an American actor, singer, and magician.

Harris was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and began his career as a child actor.

The most important roles of his career include the lead role in “Doogie Howser, M.D.”, for which he was again nominated for a Golden Globe, Colonel Carl Jenkins in “Starship Troopers”, the womanizing Barney Stinson in “How I Met Your Mother”, a fictionalized version of himself in the “Harold & Kumar” series, and the title role in the musical web series “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”.

From 1999 to 2003, Harris starred with Tony Shalhoub in the sitcom “Stark Raving Mad”, which lasted 22 episodes. Harris has worked on Broadway in both musical and dramatic roles. In 2003, he took the role of the Emcee in Cabaret, which garnered him the appreciation of the critics.

In November 2006 Harris confirmed his homosexuality by saying “…I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love.”

In September 2007 he attended the Emmy awards in the company of his partner David Burtka. In August 2010, Harris announced that he and Burtka were expecting twins via a surrogate mother.

The couple welcomed twins Gideon Scott, a boy, and Harper Grace, a girl, on October 12, 2010.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson

Jesse Tyler Ferguson (born October 22, 1975) is an American actor, most widely known for his role as Mitchell Pritchett on “Modern Family” and Richie Velch in “The Class”.

Ferguson was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

When he was 8, Ferguson decided he wanted to become an actor. He joined the Albuquerque Children’s Theatre where he was a member for six years. In high school, he played Albert Peterson in “Bye Bye Birdie” and General Bullmoose in “Li’l Abner”.

Ferguson also joined the high school speech and debate team and worked as a dancer/singer at Cliff’s Amusement Park.

In 1994, after graduating from high-school, he attended The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York City where he worked primarily in experimental and Broadway shows, including the Tony Award-winning “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”.

In 2007, Jesse appeared in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, a production of the Public Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park. In 2008 he starred in the thriller “Untraceable”.

At the moment, Ferguson plays Mitchell Pritchett on the ABC sitcom “Modern Family”. Just like his character, he has openly expressed his homosexuality. This role has brought him a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Role in a Comedy Series at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.

Last Thursday, at Elle’s Women In Television event, the actor introduced his boyfriend, lawyer Justin Mikita.

Witnesses said that the two “were inseparable all night” and an onlooker added that “every time he looked at Jesse, he seemed to melt.”

Ferguson wrote about his date on Twitter: “So @justinmikita and I are at the Elle Women in TV party,” and added a picture of two nameplates that read “Jesse Tyler Ferguson” and “Guest of Jesse Tyler Ferguson.”
