Amanda Brumfield, the estranged daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton, was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday after being convicted of aggravated manslaughter of a child in May.
In October 2008, Amanda Brumfield was babysitting her goddaughter, 1-year-old Olivia Madison Garcia, at her home in Ocoee, Florida, where the toddler died of a fractured skull while in her care.
Amanda, 32, was initially accused of murdering the child, but she was found not guilty.
She claimed that the baby fell and hit her head while trying to climb out of a playpen. But doctors and experts never believed that the skull fracture, numerous injuries and cerebral hemorrhage could have been caused by a small fall.
Billy Bob Thornton, who was married five times, has four children by three different women. During Amanda’s arrest in 2008, Thornton ‘s rep told CNN that the two had been estranged “for quite some time”.
According to reports, Brumfield’s best friend, Christina Stewart, read a letter from Brumfield at the sentencing.
“Olivia brought joy to our family from the moment she was born,” Brumfield wrote. “Olivia always was, is and will be my little girl.”
