Casey Anthony’s lawyer Jose Baez investigated by Florida State Bar

Jose Baez, lead attorney for Casey Anthony is being investigated by the Florida state bar association for possible ethical violations.

“We are investigating an open complaint regarding Jose Baez,” the Florida State Bar spokesperson told Radar Online.

The investigation was triggered by Anthony’s 2010 conviction for check fraud.

Last year in January, Judge Stan Strickland verbally sentenced Anthony to one year probation upon her release, but a clerk mistakenly wrote an order that allowed Casey’s probation to run concurrently with her time in prison.

Anthony’s lawyers appealed the judge’s decision as they argue that she served it while being jailed during her murder trial.

Judge Belvin Perry ruled that Anthony has to return by August 26 to begin one year of probation.

Anthony’s attorneys acted as if the written order was the final word. Because of this, authorities, who were unaware of the situation, considered that Anthony had completed it.

“The failure to abide by that order and the failure to notify the court of a known scrivener’s error in the order may be a violation of an attorney’s duty of candor,” Judge Perry told Casey’s attorney.

“No attorney should conduct himself or herself in a way that impedes an order of the court…Our system of justice should never be in the position of rewarding someone who willfully hides the ball.”

Baez told the judge he was actually aware of the trial judge’s error but felt he had no obligation to inform the court.

Casey Anthony’s whereabouts have been unknown since her acquittal last month.Reports say she was recently spotted in Ohio shopping, wearing a state university baseball cap.
