Elizabeth Smart will be hired by ABC News as a commentator specializing in cases of child abductions and missing persons.

Smart was kidnapped and held captive for nine months by Brian David Mitchell in Salt Lake City when she was 14.

Elizabeth, now 23, accepted the offer as she wants to create awareness about cases involving missing children.

A spokesman for ABC said that Smart, who studied music at Brigham Young University, could make her debut in a few weeks.

In May, Brian David Mitchell was sentenced to life imprisonment without possibility of parole in a federal prison for kidnapping Elizabeth Smart in 2002.
