The California attorney general denied the pharmaceutical tycoon’s request to reopen the investigation into the death of his girlfriend.

The office of California Attorney General Kamala Harris said in a letter released Thursday that it reviews cases for very limited reasons, including allegations of gross misconduct by investigators or a local law enforcement agency’s request for help.

Jonah Shacknai, 54, asked the AG’s office to take another look at the case. He questioned the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department finding that his girlfriend Rebecca Zahau, 32, committed suicide after his 6-year-old son Max suffered a fatal accident at his mansion.

Rebecca’s family strongly disagrees with her death being ruled a suicide.

In a letter from Kamala Harris’ office to Jonah Shacknai, the A.G. writes:

“Your letter requests an inquiry into the investigation that was conducted by the San Diego Sheriff’s Office … The California Department of Justice would review a local investigation under very narrow circumstances.”

“Some of the factors that are considered before committing the state’s scarce resources include whether a clear conflict of interest exists, whether local law enforcement agency has requested assistance, whether local investigative resources have been exhausted, and whether there are allegations of gross malfeasance by the investigative agency.”

“Based on a review of your request, we must decline your invitation to review this investigation at this time.”
