Reports say gospel singer Albertina Walker passed away at 81.
She was known as the Queen of Gospel, but the queen lost the battle with emphysema due to a respiratory failure in at RML Specialty Hospital in Chicago.
She started her singing career when she was only 4 at the choir of West Point Baptist church.
Walker was mentored to sing gospel by Mahalia Jackson and she formed her own gospel group called the Caravans in her 20s.
Bobby Rush said about the late singer that her music was “a healing balm to those who struggled for justice.”
