The famous couple announced at Sunday’s VMAs that they will become parents for the first time.
Beyoncé hit the red carpet in a long asymmetrical orange dress signed Lanvin. As she cradled her belly, she teasingly said, “I have a surprise!”
Later, when she walked on stage to deliver a performance of her hit song Love on Top, she told the crowd, “I want you to stand up on your feet. I want you to feel the love that’s growing inside me.”
It was at the end of the song that she unbuttoned her sequined D&G jacket and rubbed her stomach, as cameras showed husband Jay-Z broadly smiling while pal Kanye West congratulated him.
“I have known for quite a while, and she’s happy, and Jay is happy, and that’s all that counts,” Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé’s former Destiny’s Child bandmate and friend, told People at the VMAs afterparty.
As for B’s parenting skills, Kelly assured: “I think she’ll be an incredible mother, because she’s always been motherly. I think that she takes after so many traits from her mother. And I just think it’s going to be so natural for her. It’s natural for her now!”
The pair has been secretive about the news in the media, but they couldn’t resist spilling the beans to their closed ones.
“They told friends in the last month,” a source told People. “She’s never been happier. Seriously it’s all she’s been waiting for. And Jay is like an excited kid. They’re adorable.”
“She’s close to three months along,” an insider told Us magazine. “She wasn’t going to announce it but she is so excited she couldn’t hold it in.”
“Jay is ecstatic and over the moon,” the source added. “He really wanted this so badly.”
“They barely told anyone…They kept it really secret until they were sure and now she simply couldn’t wait to tell the world!”
The baby news is already leaving a mark on Beyoncé’s career. Clint Eastwood’s musical remake A Star Is Born, featuring the R&B queen, has been put on hold indefinitely.
And the couple’s baby already has a Twitter account. A hard-core fan has initiated http://twitter.com/#/BeyJayFetus and it has more than 1800 followers.
Beyoncé, who turns 30 on September 4, and Jay-Z, 41, have been married for three years. This is the first child for both of them.
