Céline Dion Was Pregnant with Triplets

“During a first scan we were told that I had twins,” she said to Julie Snyder, in a show recorded a few days before her delivery. “Then at the next ultrasound, the doctors seemed worried. We thought maybe there is only one, in the end. In fact, there was a third one.”

In tears, the mom said: “His heart stopped beating five days later. He chose to let go to give space to his brothers to grow. And that was a shock … At first, I just wanted to get pregnant but now I’ll always stay with this question”.

On Thursday night, Céline’s husband, Rene Angelil, announced the name of their twins: the first-born is called Nelson, the second Eddy. The children were delivered through Caesarian at St Mary’s hospital in Florida on October 23. The kids were named after record producer Eddy Marnay and human rights campaigner and former South African President Nelson Mandela.

Multiple pregnancies are common among mothers who use in vitro fertilization. Celine Dion says with great emotion the discovery by the doctors of those “three little hearts”. This painful loss occurred early in pregnancy.
