In full advertising campaign for his book “Decoded”, Jay-Z spoke for the first time about the incident that led him to shoot his brother when he was 12.
Beyonce’s husband had never discussed this in an interview. In an interview with The Guardian Jay-Z admitted having opened fire on his brother after he stole a ring from Hova to feed his drug habit.
“I thought my life was over,” he said. “I thought I’d go to jail forever. It was terrible. I was a boy, a child. I was terrified.”
Jay-Z’s brother, Eric, didn’t press charges against him.
Jay-Z talked about the incident with his brother in the song “You Must Love Me”, from his second album ‘In My Lifetime, Vol. 1.’ The lyrics say, “Saw the devil in your eyes, high off more than weed, confused, I just closed my young eyes and squeezed.”. A best of Jay-Z is out.
