Potential competitors in the “American Idol” show are warned: don’t try to impress judge Jennifer Lopez by performing her songs. She doesn’t like that.
“It was cute, super entertaining and flattering, but no,” Lopez told a competitor who failed his audition by singing one of the diva’s hit songs.
“They know we’re not out to cut them down or make a joke of them,” Lopez told reporters about the participants.”We’re trying to mentor them to the next step.”
After holding auditions in seven cities, Lopez says that judges have discovered “15 to 20 real superstars who could be recording artists for sure.”
The singer/actress also says it isn’t easy being a judge, revealing that she has cried in the process.
“I’ve cried,” Lopez said. “We get a lot of elation when we put them through and devastation, almost, when they’re not. But it’s been a ball.”
