The singer revealed that the first disagreement between the three judges on the reality show American Idol took place at a recent audition.
J.Lo talked about the incident on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show Friday morning.
“I think me, Randy and Steven got into our first fight,” she said. “I got really, really upset. There was this girl that came in and sang and she was amazing, amazing. And Steven, as he will do when we’re doing our auditions, he’ll ask her for another song. I was like, I was surprised because I was ready to vote. I was like, ‘This girl is amazing.’ ”
After the girl’s second song, Tyler and Jackson eliminated her from the competition.
Lopez recalled, “I thought I was being Punk’d. [I thought], ‘How can we let this girl go?’ I was upset. When I believe in something … I knew this girl deserves the chance.”
Despite the fight, Lopez feels her second season on Idol is “going really great,” but does admit: “The kids, we’re being really tough on them.”
During the interview, Lopez avoided bringing up her divorce from Marc Anthony, who recently opened up about their split on ABC’s Nightline.
She talked about the release of her single Papi and how she came up with the name of the track.
“I call everybody ‘Papi,’ ” Lopez said. “I used to call Marc ‘Papi.’ We wrote the song about loving somebody and celebrating that.”
