Jon Bon Jovi: “If you want to be perfectly honest, I’m 10lb overweight and I’m drinking too much”

Jon Bon Jovi, the lead singer of American band Bon Jovi said in a recent interview with The Observer that he is really bored, overweight and consumes too much alcohol, informs digitaljournal.com.

Jon Bon Jovi is the band’s frontman since the age of 21.

The American musician, born in 1962 in New Jersey, is accompanying his fellow bandmates into a world tour promoting the latest album of the group, entitled “The Circus”, which was released in November 2009.

On Monday, the band released the second “Greatest Hits” album.

“I’m vain inasmuch as I think I’m terribly out of shape right now,” he told a reporter for The Observer. “If you want to be perfectly honest, I’m 10lb overweight and I’m drinking too much and I’m bored to tears.”

He admitted though that while he was “not the fat Elvis” he was coming to “real good terms with getting older”.

He also said that in his youth he would get upset that when he was called a sex symbol, but now he considers it “a great compliment.”

On the subject of age he said: “You become that thing that you looked at your parents and the older people in your life, and said: ‘No! I don’t want to live to be that old! I don’t want to!’ But it’s actually… much better than dying. And there are too many people that are my age, that are dying. God, I didn’t want to be that! That would be awful!

“You can see why people get fat, grow old, give up! Because every day is: get up, do the same mundane shit. When you don’t know anything more, and you don’t see anything more, and you’re not willing to open up your eyes and take a step in another direction… that treadmill would make any young man old.”

At the age of 21 years, Jon Bon Jovi founded the rock band Bon Jovi, together with Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres. The band became famous after winning a contest organized by a radio station in New York in the early ’80s. The winning song was “Runaway.”

The Bon Jovi band has created its own musical style, born out of the aggressive rock typical of that era, but with more “sugary” accents, which had the large public appreciate them.

Over the years, the Bon Jovi group has sold over 125 million albums, has performed over 2,700 concerts in over 50 countries to over 35 million spectators in 2008, it was the band that had the highest grossing revenues coming from concerts.

Several years ago the American singer founded the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, a charity that fights poverty.

Jon Bon Jovi and his wife, Dorothea, were married in 1989 and have four children.
