Katy Perry showed up on the red carpet at MTV European Music Awards in the company of her husband, comedian Russell Brand.
Perry and Brand were holding hands as a newly married couple and the singer showed off a gorgeous ring on her finger.
This is the couple’s first appearance in public since their marriage and the two stars seemed to enjoy each other’s company very much.
As for Katy’s performance, the singer took the stage in a glittery jumpsuit covered in shimmery red and white beads, and had her hair curled up in a ponytail.
In keeping with the “Firework” theme, the stage had dancers bust moves behind the singer with hand-held devices spitting out sparks. The dynamics of the performance is in tune with the idea of the single.
“People are coming back and almost adopting it as their own anthem, and it’s hard, I think, to write an anthem that’s not cheesy,” Katy explained in an interview with MTV News. “I hope that this could be something in that category. I hope this could be one of those things where it’s like, ‘Yeah, I want to put my fist up and feel proud and feel strong.’”
The 26-year-old singer is no stranger to the EMA stage: she’d been the host of the event in the previous two years.
Perry was nominated at the Best Video category for “California Gurls.” and she beat out “Kings and Queens” by 30 Seconds to Mars, “Telephone” by Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé, “Prayin’ ” by Plan B and “Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem featuring Rihanna.
