Controversy surrounding LeAnn Rimes and Shape magazine doesn’t seem to end.
Thursday night, Shape magazine threw a party in honor of LeAnn Rimes’ appearance for the third time as their cover girl. But surprisingly, the party’s honoree, LeAnn Rimes, didn’t show up.
The singer’s rep said that she caught the flu, and “under doctor’s orders was advised not to travel or go out.”
Apparently, Rimes’ no-show left the magazine confused, but January 2011 cover girl Brooke Burke instead filled in to host the party, says a source cited by People.
On Friday, LeAnn tweeted about her condition, “Headed to the Dr. in a bit. This flu thing is hard to shake. Just to clarify, I was never supposed to sing at the Shape party and yes, under Dr.’s orders I couldn’t go. I spoke to Valerie yesterday I don’t know how many times and all is well w/ absolutely NO controversy.”
Later she added: “Just happen to get sick at the ‘perfect’ time, SUCKS!!”
Earlier this week, LeAnn Rimes’ cover shot on Shape sparked controversy as the editor-in-chief, Valerie Latona, apologized to readers for choosing the singer for the cover.
“You are all in good company… as you all agree Shape has made a terrible mistake in putting LeAnn Rimes on the cover,” the editor wrote in the email.
Latona later retracted her words, saying her “personal letter” was taken out of context, and said she stood by her decision.
The 28-year-old singer quickly responded, “Shape is throwing me a party next week as a thank you and a congrats for being on their cover for the third time. I find this very contradictory.”
