After several weeks of speculation surrounding the pregnancy of Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, her husband, said on Thursday, during his morning radio show broadcast in New York, that the 40-year-old singer is pregnant with twins.
“In order for my wife and I to have our life, we need to be up front and I need to be able to share things with you and be real,” Cannon said.
“I didn’t even tell my wife I was gonna do this. I’m probably gonna get yelled at for not getting permission…We are having twins!” he told his listeners.
Cannon also confessed that the first people to find out about the good news were President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, on Sunday, behind the scenes of the Christmas show in Washington, organized by the television network TNT.
“They actually even questioned my wife about [the twins],” he said. “She hadn’t told anybody anything! Because of the excitement and emotion, she shared [the news] with the President and the First Lady.”
In November, during an interview on Radio Disney as part of promoting her new Christmas album, Mariah Carey used the plural when referring to her baby that had not failed to feed the rumor that she was expecting twins.
“I just hope they don’t hate Christmas!” she said.
Mariah Carey, who should give birth in spring, confirmed on October 28 she was pregnant. In an unpublished interview given to Access Hollywood, she explained that she had taken a long time to make the announcement official because she had had a miscarriage in 2008.
“We definitely cried” upon learning of her successful pregnancy, Cannon told Us. “We still cry all the time. It’s an emotional journey.”
The sex of the babies is still unknown, but Nick Cannon recently said that the names of his children were chosen long ago.
“We picked them out, so we are sticking to it. So far, so far,” he revealed. “I heard they tend to change. I heard you never let anyone know the name. People start to weigh in on it and I heard that, you know, once it actually happens, the name…”
