Sheryl Crow talks motherhood, living in the country, and dating to Prevention

The May issue of Prevention magazine is catching up with the singer’s life these days.

In the interview, Sheryl talks about her view on parenting and reveals that she’s a strict mom.

“I’m strict,” Crow says. “They have to understand that somebody’s in charge and sometimes the answer is no. It’s about being consistent.”

“I really think that you do them a disservice when they get out into the world and they realize they’re not entitled to have everything. I think we’ve gotten to that place where parenting has been equated with making a child happy,” the 49-year-old singer adds.

While a single mom, Crow has been dating a producer for several months and he seems to get along really well with the kids: “I’ve been in the situation where I’ve been involved with people and their kids, and if the relationship doesn’t work out, it’s heartbreak. So I’m keeping the relationship friend-based when we’re around the kids.”

Regarding her choice to move to a 154-acre farm outside of Nashville, Sheryl says: “I love LA,” she says. “I am so happy to see my friends there, but after four or five days, I’m like, ‘Let’s go home.’ Nashville feels more reality-based. I feel centered here. There’s a connection between me and nature.”

In the interview, the singer also talks about her experience with cancer and what it taught her.

“Anyone who’s diagnosed with anything will agree that such news is not only a showstopper but also an opportunity to recreate the way you live and how you look at life. It was for me.”
