The first rule for an artist to be called a singer is to be able to perform live.

In the first series of the top, we have five singers who are definitely some of the best performing singers in the world. We will have several series in the coming weeks, each with five singers, to cover the whole palette of performers.

Each series of five singers will have one week to vote. At the end, we choose only five finalists.

This week we have: Christina Aguilera, Adele, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys.

Christina Aguilera

“The little girl with the big voice,” as she was called during her childhood, is known for powerful voice that reaches four octaves. One of the many memorable moments was the performance at the Grammy Awards when Aguilera sang James Brown’s song, “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World.” Also notable was her performance at the VMA 2006, when Cristina performed “Hurt,” leaving the audience speechless.

Adele

There’s little chance that there are persons who haven’t listened at least once to “Someone Like You”, “Rolling in the deep” or any other hit song performed by British singer Adele. The singer was influenced by the music of Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald, and when asked about her favorite singers of all time, she said: “My favorite singers are Etta James and Aretha Franklin. If you were to look up the word singer in the dictionary you’d see their names. Not mine.”

Beyoncé

Beyoncé has a strong voice, with distinct, unmistakable inflections. At the 2008 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé and Tina Turner performed a high-powered duet of “Proud Mary”. The R&B singer and the soul legend had a brilliant performance. Another outstanding moment was her performance in Atlanta in 2006 when she sang “Dangerously In Love.”

Alicia Keys

Keys graduated from Professional Performing Arts School, a prestigious school in Manhattan, when she was 16. Her voice is unique, as soon as you hear her sing, you know it’s Alicia’s mark.

“I’m a classically trained pianist, so [my music] has a classical zone in it. It has blues, jazz, R&B, hip-hop. It’s a fusion of everything that I am, which is a lot,” the singer said about her music. Watch “New York” and “If I Got You” to get delighted:

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s spectacular live performances are completed by a real show. She learned to play piano at the age of 4, wrote her first ballad at 13 and started playing live at 14. The singer certainly introduced a new trend with her style: Gaga fever. Watch her performance for “Bad Romance” at the X Factor and “Born This Way” at Sydney Monster Hall and you will remain speechless.
