Nicole Richie will begin the new year as a free woman.
The probation period for the star ended on Wednesday, two months earlier than expected.
Nicole’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, provided evidence that Lionel Richie’s adopted daughter was able to regain her freedom. According to TMZ, glowing recommendations from the school where she took courses in alcohol awareness during the past 18 months accompanied the report.
Recently married to Good Charlotte singer Joe Madden, Nicole Richie was convicted in 2006 for DUI. She was arrested while traveling in the opposite direction on a highway. Richie later admitted she had smoked marijuana and taken Vicodin, a powerful painkiller, before taking the wheel.
Probation was originally scheduled to end in late February, but the judge agreed to terminate it early after finding that she had fulfilled all the conditions imposed.
