Carlos Santana fake death reports surfaced on the internet after the death of Muammar Gaddafi was announced by international news.

The death rumors arose because Carlos Santana very much resembles the recently deceased Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Consequently, Santana was written off as a dead man for several hours on Twitter.

In the ensuing confusion, tweeters began to post condolences for the Grammy-winner and use pictures of the actual deceased person, Gaddafi.

The false rumors of Santana’s death caused a social media snowball, resulting in “RIP Carlos Santana” tweets that were both serious and in jest.

Images like the one below have circulated on Twitter, sparking confusion and irritation among the singer’s fans.
