Just days before Elizabeth Edwards’ death, her daughter Cate gave her a reason for joy: she is engaged to longtime boyfriend Trevor Upham.

“Elizabeth was thrilled,” a source told People.

Cate and Trevor are expected to attend Edwards’ funeral, which takes place today, as she is expected to deliver a eulogy and he will serve as pallbearer.

Regarding the resemblance between the Cate and her mother, Upham said: “They have the same quirks. They like the same things. I think they even hold their phones the same way.”

Upham, a physician who was a year ahead of Cate at school, met Elizabeth’s daughter while students at Princeton, and got engaged over Thanksgiving.
