The device may not hit the market in the near future, an analyst says.
According to a Barron’s report, Jefferies analyst James Kisner claimed that the launch of Apple’s rumored HDTV was “imminent.”
Kisner based his claims on several cable industry sources who said that at least one cable company is “is working to estimate how much additional capacity may be needed for a new Apple device on their broadband data network.”
However, AllThingsD’s John Paczkowski is skeptical about the rumor.
While he is certain that Apple has been talking with cable companies regarding a new product, the idea of an HDTV release being “imminent” doesn’t seem likely in his opinion.
Paczkowski says that Apple has “already steered analysts away from the notion that it will have something to say about a TV solution soon.”
In case an HDTV was ready to ship, the company would have notified “TV programmers about new arrangements, and we haven’t heard anything along those lines.”
