Apple TV disappears from store shelves, rumors of update resurface

As Apple’s current TV model disappears from store shelves like Best Buy, Wallmart, or even on Amazon, speculation is rife about the potential release of a branded-HDTV.

AppleInsider and CNet report that the Cupertino tech giant is likely to be readying an updated version of the Apple TV as it is no longer available on shopping sites or stores.

According to a report on AppleInsider, BestBuy.com is no longer selling the device on its website.

When contacted about the lack of the device, a Best Buy salesperson said, “I don’t recall seeing them for a while. At this point in time, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting [the Apple TV] back.”

The site also wrote that several electronics chains that used to commercialize the device now no longer have it in stock.

Speculation that Apple might deliver a new version seems plausible now, especially since the device hasn’t undergone major revision since September 2010.

Recently, Tim Cook stated that the Apple TV was an unusual project for the company as Apple doesn’t normally “do hobbies”. He added that the company sees potential bigger plans regarding the development of the device.
