Apple’s Newsstand feature in iTunes boosted sales and subscription rates for Popular Science magazine.

The magazine recorded an increase in sales and subscriptions after the placement of the app in iOS 5.

After Newsstand debuted in October, Popular Science + registered a one-week sales increase of 13%.

In the months leading up to the release of iOS 5, the magazine has been adding subscribers at a rate of about 700 per week.

In addition, subscription rates leapt from 28,658 to 32,335 following the launch of Newsstand.

And the numbers might soar as the publication’s weekly readership goes above 40,000 at the moment.

The numbers are positive for Apple too as the company takes a 30 % cut of subscriptions placed through the App Store.
