While many were disappointed with the release of the iPhone 4S instead of the iPhone 5, Apple lift spirits by unveiling its latest updated iOS 5.

While everyone is still reeling from the news of Steve Jobs’ untimely death, the revolutionary brand has decided to make available the new update for the operating systems of iPhone, iPad and iPod: iOS 5.

The update brings 200 new features, among which the most notable are the Notification Center , fully customizable, the arrival of a unified messaging application iMessage, the new application reminder, which makes sure that you remember important tasks and can even alert you depending on your location.

Apple pulls the plug

iCloud is the star of this new version: now your photos, documents, notes, emails, contacts, applications, music is automatically synchronized between your various devices. That means there is no need to connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod to your computer to update its equipment as this will happen “over the air” via the Wi-Fi network.

iCloud can record and store the content selected by the user in the clouds, meaning on Apple’s servers. You will now be able to recover your photos, videos, notes, calendar, contacts, documents, music purchased from iTunes from anywhere, without having to connect the device to a computer.

Similarly, users won’t be required to connect the new phone to a PC to configure and start the device after purchase.

In addition, Twitter is integrated into iOS 5, allowing for example to Tweet directly a photo or web page.

The updates for the Safari web browser are especially advantageous on the iPad, by getting rid of the extra stuff on the screen, such as ads, browser tabs, etc, when reading a book for example.

Installation

Nothing could be easier. To do this, you must first install the latest version of iTunes software, available for free.

Once installed, you will start iTunes, connect your iPhone or other device iOS device to your computer and follow the installation steps. You will be guided step by step. For added security, you should back up your data before proceeding with this update.

Given the large demand for Apple’s new mobile operating system, technical problems surfaced days after its release as servers were overloaded.

However, AppleBlog’s Darrell Etherington offered an installation tip via Washington Post chat on Thursday.

As the installation removes the apps from your device, you recover them back by going to the App Store on your device, Updates and then Purchased. Etherington explained that users will be able to download purchased apps from there and organize them in iTunes before syncing with another device.
