The new Apple tablet, which will likely be presented next week in San Francisco, is expected to feature a new screen, an improved camera and a more powerful processor.
The next Apple keynote will take place on March 7 and the company has send out invitations to journalists today.
The invitations sport a photo of what looks like an iPad touchscreen and reads: “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”
The image shows that the handset will have a new high resolution screen, confirming the rumors on the arrival of a Retina Display.
In addition, insiders have suggested that the iPad 3 will be thinner because of its new display technology and that it will feature Siri, the voice-activated personal assistant.
The latest rumors indicate that the tablet could be $70-$80 pricier than the iPad 2.
According to a Chinese microblogging site, the price will start at $579 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only model, which is more expensive than the $499 price of the iPad 2.
The components that are likely to be blamed for this price increase include the Retina Display, as well as the new processor and video sensor.
The event is set to take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10 a.m. PST (1 p.m. EST).
