Citing industry sources, Taiwanese site DigiTimes reports that the fifth-generation iPad will use what is known as “G/F2 (DITO) thin-film type” touchscreen technology.

The report states that Apple is more likely to select G/F2 technology rather than the one-glass-solution,” or OGS technology.

The new tech will make the device thinner and lighter. That is the structure of the display to be found in the iPad mini.

The thin-film semiconductor materials for the new iPad displays will be supplied by Japanese company Nitto, with the release of touchscreen modules ensured by Nissha Printing.

Sharp will be entrusted with panels shipping.

Apple is rumored to be planning the launch of an iPad with a storage capacity of 128 GB.
