AllThingsD reports that the event is expected to be held in Apple’s Town Hall auditorium.

Earlier reports claimed that Apple would send out invites on Oct. 10, with the event scheduled to be held a week later.

The mini tablet is expected to come with a 7.85-inch screen and Apple’s new Lightning connector.

Market watchers believe the handset will likely compete with smaller tablets like Google’s Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

Japanese blog Macotakara recently reported that production of the device’s case has been stopped due to a design change.

There is also speculation that the smaller iPad version will be Wi-Fi-only.
