A new report from Reuters reiterates the rumor regarding Apple’s 7.85-inch tablet.

According to the source cited by the publication, a “new product” will likely be presented at a “major” October 23 event.

The device is expected to compete against Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7.

An October 23 media event was also reported by AllThingsD on Friday. The site wrote that the event will likely be held in Apple’s Town Hall auditorium.

The mini tablet is expected to come with a 7.85-inch screen and Apple’s new Lightning connector.

Topeka Capital analyst Brian White claims that the device is comparable to other small-sized tablets on the market.

“We actually had the opportunity to play with a pilot iPad Mini used by one of the vendors,” White said. “This 7.85-inch iPad Mini fit our hands like a glove and we were easily able to tuck the device in our sport coat, offering consumers a more mobile iPad experience for certain use cases.”
