iPhone 5 bill of materials estimated at $167.50

Materials for the 16GB iPhone 5 cost an estimated $167.50.

According to an analysis of the potential cost of the device’s components, research firm UBM TechInsights found that the priciest iPhone 5 part is the A6 processor.

The data is based on information revealed by Apple upon the release of the device on Wednesday.

The company reportedly spends $18 for the 4-inch display, $7.50 for the touch screen and $3 for the battery.

The A6 processor costs $28, the camera is built for $10 and the WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS is $4.

Together with the costs of other iPhone 5 parts, the bill of materials reaches an estimated $167.50.

TechInsights will open up the new iPhone and analyze its components following the device’s launch on September 21.
