iPhone 5 design, specs, release date rumors: reasons to wait for Apple’s next smartphone

InRumor offers you a summary of the most relevant and most plausible rumors concerning specs of the next generation iPhone.

Design

Reports have speculated that Appple is likely to update the current iPhone’s 3.5-inch display and as rumors from last year suggested, the new device could come equipped with a 4 inch screen.

Earlier this month, iLounge editor Jeremy Horowitz wrote that the smartphone will be longer and thinner than the iPhone 4 and 4S: the dimensions of the new mobile would be 125 x 58.5 x 7.4 mm, compared to115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm for the current model.

Also, the size of the dock connector will be fairly reduced to the extent that it will have just 16 pins instead of 30, as is the case with the current model.

Processor

A March report suggested that Apple isn’t planning on launching the A6 any sooner.

Instead, the company would rather wait for the release of the iPhone 5 to introduce the chip.

The new version of the A5, currently found in the iPad, includes improved graphics capabilities and more RAM than on the previous model.

LTE

Rumors of an LTE iPhone 5 have been around for some time now. Last month it was reported that problems with Qualcomm’s LTE chips could cause the smartphone to be released in October.

Reports have long speculated that the future iPhone will integrate LTE for faster uploads and downloads.

Analysts have estimated that the 4G LTE technology could cause the next-gen iPhone to be thicker due to antenna and the battery.

Battery

Analysts also speculate that Apple will need to insert a heavier battery if it plans on introducing Long-Term Evolution to its gadgets in 2012.

The LTE technology, faster processor and larger display will most likely cause a bigger battery drain and Apple is expected to address the issue before the release of the next iPhone.

Release date

Latest rumors regarding the launch of the next iPhone claim that the device will be released at the WWDC in June.

Other publications say that production problems with the Qualcomm chips “confirm” the fall launch of the iPhone.

This week iMore wrote that Apple will launch the new iPhone this October, although recent reports have speculated that September could be considered for a potential release date.

iOS 6

The launch of the iOS 6, powered by apps such as Siri, obviously optimized and improved, is expected to come with the release of the iPhone 5.

Various rumors indicate that the new iOS will be launched at the upcoming WWDC to be held in June this year. Important releases of iOS versions are closely related to the launch of a new iPhone model.
