iPhone 5 news rollup – prices of unlocked new iPhone, display scrolling issue, Lightning accessories, comparisons and others

This past week we’ve had several comparisons between Apple’s sixth-generation iPhone and other smartphones, as well as analyst forecast and speculation.

iMore performed a performance test on the iPhone 5, iPod Touch 5G, iPad mini and all iPad models.

The guys at PhoneArena made two videos comparing the new iPhone to HTC’s One X + and Windows Phone 8X.

CNET checked the compatibility of the iPhone 5 and its new Lightning port with some car models and came to the conclusion that problems may sometimes appear.

Recent data from Strategy Analytics show that Samsung’s Galaxy S3 has outsold the iPhone 5 and 4S in worldwide sales during the third quarter of 2012.

Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu claimed that production of the iPhone 5 has improved since the device’s launch in September and predicted that Apple will sell 46.5 million iPhones in the current quarter.

Analyst Walter Piecyk wrote that supply and demand for Apple’s new iPhone are “almost in balance.”

The analysts’ estimates followed reports that Foxconn CEO Terry Gou acknowledged the difficulties in assembling enough devices to keep up with Apple’s requirements.

The Wall Street Journal wrote that Apple has sold its initial stocks of the iPhone 5 in India.

The same publication wrote that China Telecom chairman Wang Xiaochu said that the carrier will start selling the device in late November or early December.

AT&T announced that it will allow FaceTime video calling for iPhone 5 users with any Mobile Share plan.

Prices of unlocked iPhone 5 units that are expected to be available later this year appeared on Apple’s website, ranging from $649 to $849, depending on the amount of memory space.

Sparrow developer Dinh Viet Hoa announced on Twitter that Apple has rejected the new version of the app and in order to avoid having it being pulled from the App Store entirely, the team must now submit a new version.

Reports of problems with the in-cell displays of the iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5 surfaced.

The first iPhone 5 official third-party accessories for the new Lightning connector have been announced by Belkin this week.

Apple also released its Lightning to Micro USB in the United States last Friday.
