The company sent invitations to selected members of the press to invite them to an iPhone event on October 4, confirming the various rumors that have circulated recently on the subject.

“Let’s talk iPhone,” says the invitation, which requests participants to be at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino (California, western United States) next Tuesday at 10 am.

The device is expected to be “thinner and lighter” than the iPhone 4 released in 2010, and equipped with a “more sophisticated” operating system, according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to the latest rumors regarding the upcoming iPhone 5, a 1GB of RAM and a voice-control system known as the Assistant are said to be some of the gadget’s features.

Citing a “source familiar with the SOC’s manufacturing,” the site 9to5Mac reported that the new smartphone from Apple will include an A5 chip, 1GB of internal memory and an 8-megapixel camera.

The device will also include a Qualcomm Gobi Baseband chipset that will allow it to run on both CDMA and GSM networks.

Besides the improvement regarding the iPhone’s memory, a voice-control system called the Assistant is a specific new feature that will allow users to navigate the device and make commands via voice.

The event next week is the first to be held since Steve Jobs left his position as CEO of the company in August. The shares of the company reached new heights since his departure.
