Texas Instruments working on iPhone 5 chip, rumored September launch date

Texas Instruments, a supplier for Apple that provides particular components for the iPhone 4S and the new iPad, is rumored to have started production of a chip power management for the iPhone 5.

The rumor comes from RepairLabs who states that their source has “proven extremely reliable in the past.”

The website also cites Chinese sources saying that the iPhone 5 would be released in September, a month earlier than last year’s October release for the iPhone 4S.

Apple rumored to be working on 5-inch Retina display device for 2013

According to a Chinese source cited by Japanese site MacOtakara, Apple is preparing a new device carrying a screen of an intermediate 5-inch size.

The website reported on Wednesday that this product will have a screen resolution of either 1,600 pixels by 960 pixels, or 1,280 by 960 pixels.

The source didn’t clarify whether the handset would be closer to the iPhone or iPod touch than to that of the iPad or a different product family.

Top 5 release date rumors on the iPhone 5

This week we debated the much talked-about rumor regarding the iPhone 5 release date, asking our readers to cast a vote for what they believed to be a plausible launch date.

According to Ibtimes, the next iPhone will likely be launched sooner than expected, that is before October. Reuters wrote that the device will be available in Q2 of 2012.

Other sites, such as iMore and Macotakara, reported that the handset will probably arrive on the market in the fall,

On the other hand, Digitimes wrote that analysts expect the iPhone 5 to appear at this year’s Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) which is planned for 11 – 15 June.

iPhone 5 display rumors: 3.5-inch vs. 4-inch; 4.6-inch vs. 5-inch

Also this week, InRumor debated the possibility of a future iPhone supporting a bigger screen.

Last week, Reuters quoted a source in South Korea suggesting that Cupertino would be interested in using a 4.6-inch display for the next iPhone and launching it in Q2 of 2012.

On the other hand, iMore has obtained information from a source within Apple claiming that the iPhone 5 will stick to its current 3.5-inch screen that the company uses on the iPhone 4S.

In addition, Japanese blog Macotakara reported that Apple is working on a new product that will sport a 5-inch Retina display and whose release date is planned for 2013.

In January of this year, 9to5Mac cited reliable from Foxconn claiming that the iPhone 5 is almost ready to go into production. The insiders also said that the device will have a 4-inch screen, that it will be bigger than current models and that its thickness is the same.
