iPhone 5 could be released Oct. 5 2012 to commemorate Steve Jobs’ death

Apple Biter’s Blog has sparked a frenzy this week after claiming that the Cupertino company could be planning to mark the one-year anniversary of Jobs’ death next October with the release of the iPhone 5.

Jobs was known to have been closely involved with the iPhone 5 in the last days of his life and followed all the steps of the production.

Because of this, speculation is rife that the date of the launch for the iPhone 5could be pushed to October in commemoration of the death of Apple’s co-founder.

iPhone, iPad batteries to last for weeks thanks to fuel cells

According to two patent applications filed by Apple, future iPhones, iPads, MacBooks and iPods could function on hydrogen fuel cells.

The result would be that a battery could last for hours, days, weeks and maybe even months, without having to recharge.

“Such fuel cells and associated fuels can potentially achieve high volumetric and gravimetric energy densities, which can potentially enable continued operation of portable electronic devices for days or even weeks without refueling,” Apple said.

iPhone 5 with aluminum back and complete new design coming in fall 2012

According to sources cited by BGR, the next-generation iPhone will “use a rubber or plastic material — similar to the material used in the company’s bumper cases — that will be built into the new iPhone case.”

In addition, the rear panel could be made of aluminum. This body will help cover a redesigned antenna system that surrounds the device.

The handset is also said to sport a 4-inch display with the same resolution and a faster processor.

iPhone app downloads reached 5 million in November

A report from marketing firm Fiksu has revealed that Apple’s App Store topped five million per day for the first time ever last month, all thanks to the successful launches of the iPhone 4S and the iOS 5, which upped downloads to 83 % higher than the same time in 2010.

Overall, an average of 5.65 million per day was recorded for November. In October, the App Store Top 200 had 4.91 million free app downloads per day.
