InRumor offers you a recap of this week’s iPhone 5 rumors.

iPhone 5, iPad 3 rumored to feature 4G LTE

Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu predicts that the upcoming iPhone and iPad are bound to offer such technology.

In a note to clients, Wu said, “We are frankly not surprised as this is consistent with our supply chain checks inmid-January. As we had commented then, we believe the upcoming iPad refresh could be significant with notable new features including a 4G LTE wireless, beefed upprocessor, higher resolution screen, and Siri voice recognition.”

Wu estimates that the iPhone 5 will likely feature LTE.

“We view the potential inclusion of 4G LTE for iPad as a positive and a good indicator that the upcoming iPhone 5 refresh in the fall time frame will likely include this key feature as well,” the analyst estimates. “We continue to believe that AAPL is positioned to outperform in this tough macroeconomic environment with its defendable strategic and structural advantages and its vertical integration.”

iPhone 5 to launch in September or October

Japanese blog Macotakara reported earlier this week that the iPhone 5 is heading for release in September or October 2012.

“According to Asian reliable source, next iPhone will be released in September or October, and this cycle seems to be kept for years,” the report said.

In addition, MacRumors wrote that it heard from a representative of a supplier known to provide parts for the iPhone that Apple is working on a launch of new hardware in September.

If Apple’s past iPhone launches usually took place in the summer, now it seems the Cupertino tech giant wants to change things and as the WWDC this summer is dedicated to OS X, a fall release date is highly probable.

However, this comes in contrast to recent reports claiming the next iPhone will be released in the summer. The latest report from ibtimes.com speculated that the iPhone 4S’ gradual loss of popularity would eventually force Apple to plan an earlier launch for the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5, iPad 3 could be powered by Qualcomm Gobi Chipset

Chipmaker Qualcomm introduced its fifth generation Gobi chipset for mobile computing yesterday. Analysts speculate that the chipset could equip both the iPhone 5 and iPad 3.

The gadget offers the widest support on the market, with TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE, LTE support on FDD and TDD networks worldwide and embedded GPS capability, as well as HSPA+ and EV-DO.

The company noted in a press release that the chip is compatible with Windows 8 and Android devices, including the Snapdragon dual-core and quad-core processors and x86 platforms.

According to 9to5mac, the chipset could power the long-awaited iPhone 5 and iPad 3. An iPhone 5 running the Gobi chip would help Apple using the same hardware for all territories and all carriers which normally use incompatible radio technologies.

Ciccarese Design presents new teardrop concept

Italian conceptual studio CiccareseDesign has come up with a mockup is of the forthcoming iPhone 5.

Inspired by products like Apple’s Magic Mouse, the concept is equipped with a white face plate, a metallic backplate, as well as three buttons on the left for volume and silent mode.

The concept also features a front face and a white back metal, the three buttons for volume and vibrate mode.

Needles to say, these pictures are only creations of the designers and do not in any way represent the final design of the model.

iPhone 5 to sport micro dock for larger batteries?

According to iMore, Apple is reportedly ditching the current 30-Pin connector in order to include bigger batteries and 4G LTE tech.

“The dock connector as it exists now is a relatively big component that takes up, while not a lot of space compared to the entire assembly, a lot of space compared to the difference between mini and micro SIM,” Rene Ritchie at iMore wrote yesterday.

The iPhone 5 is believed to be the first Apple device to feature the micro dock connector, followed by the iPad and iPod touch.

The site reports that the new dock connector will not be MicroUSB due to its slow data transfer speeds, nor Thunderbolt as this technology is not compatible with all the computers.

A new micro dock connector would allow Apple to bring new features to the future iPhone without having to increase its size.
